If you're like me, you love looking through the new makeup lines for packaging. I know the product inside it probably has the exact same formula as the rest of the brand, but when a normally circular packaging turns sparkly and has a big eyeball on it, it’s exciting. Unsurprisingly, I believe that makeup collaborations between different companies are very exciting. Let’s look beyond the well known ones and dive into some questionable collaborations from the past 5 years.

Sephora and Moschino School Supply
Rating- 10/10
In 2019 Sephora dropped this line with Jeramy Scott as the designer. This line had a brush set that looked like pencils, nail polish resembling white out, sponges that looked like erasers, the eyeshadow palette was created to impersonate a laptop and liquid lipstick that embodied markers. The colors were bright and vibrant and the little bear mascot was adorable in my opinion. My only question is, when would someone wear these colors, like the teal lip color? Maybe I’m not as adventurous with my makeup colors.
Elf and Chipotle
Rating-2/10
This one is extremely weird, and not in a fun way. Although the makeup bag looks like burrito foil (which very much does remind me of Chipotle) the rest of the line just looks like regular Elf cosmetics with different names to fulfill Chipotle’s part in this collaboration. In my opinion, it is simply not creative enough. This line came out in 2020 so the possibilities for weird makeup are even higher than in 2019 due to face masks. I’m highly disappointed in the missed possibilities with this collaboration.
Hipdot and Tapatio
Rating- 5/10
This makeup brand is known for fun collaborations including collaborations with Spongebob and My Chemical Romance. However, I thought this well known hot sauce brand was the weirdest. The colors in the makeup line are all inspired by Mexican food, including a salsa and guacamole eyeshadow shade. The lip product lets you recreate a plump lip look as it contains hot sauce in it. Overall, the gimmick of putting the food into the makeup is fabulous. I also like that these shades are wearable in normal life. Over all, congratulations Hipdot, you did the best.
